Dr. G.H. (Geert) Groeneveld

My research focuses on value based health care in acute internal medicine, concentrated on patients with respiratory tract infections. Within the Leiden Bioscience Park we have developed a controlled human infection model (CHIM) for influenza, in which we are able to perform early phase (value based) studies on influenza treatment and vaccination. I study biomarkers that can be used as screening instrument in the diagnostic process and will reduce unnecessary testing. We are setting up a large multicenter intervention trial to investigate oral versus intravenous antibiotic treatment in patients with moderate-severe pneumonia.
